Financial & Math Calculators

Interest and everyday maths calculators. Useful alongside the loan and investment tools when you are comparing a deposit, a discount or a rate.

Which financial & math calculators should you use?

These are the general-purpose tools that sit behind the loan and investment calculators. They answer the arithmetic questions that come up when you are comparing a deposit, checking a discount, or trying to understand what a quoted rate means.

The distinction that matters most is between simple interest, which is charged on the original amount only, and compound interest, which is charged on the interest already added. Over a few years the gap becomes substantial, which is why bank deposits quote a compounding frequency and short-term lenders quote a flat rate.

Percentage Calculator covers five relationships at once, including the one people get wrong: a 20% fall followed by a 20% rise does not bring you back to where you started. Average Calculator reports the median and mode alongside the mean, which matters whenever a few extreme values would drag the average around.

For borrowing questions specifically, Loan Interest applies reducing-balance interest rather than the simple or compound formulas here. For deposits, FD and PPF apply each scheme's own convention, which is not the textbook one.
